Black People Politics : Black pastor stirs controversy ahead of Obama’s Morehouse commencement speech

the article was written by a black man and published in a black paper…...

Thanks James for that clarification. That info was left out. I still think the one to blame is the pastor and not the paper.
Your stepping up makes it better for me to understand
brother Skuder's position, even tho' we disagree over whose to blame.

Be Blessed!

I still think the one to blame is the pastor and not the paper
that pastor is from bright hope baptist which is right up the street from where i live. i pass by it often.
that pastor is dealing first hand with the problems of black people in north philly.
bright hope baptist has a long record of good works within the community.

i have to say that i am behind him 100%.

rev Johnson is on the front lines and he is not getting help from our black leaders.
we got a black mayor and a black president and they are not helping black people.
if we can get no help from our own where do we turn?

i fully understand why he wrote an article and placed it in the black paper.

No president ever "gave" Black people anything. The Civil rights Movement demanded civil rights legislation and the right to vote for Obama, from a racist White dixiecrat warmonger; LBJ. Black folks demanded nothing from Obama for four years, just said "wait and see"
Do you have any idea of what you are talking about? You pay for cable service to do this and an electric company as well, so you dont demand anything for the taxes you pay? Is the Black community prepared right now to be totally self sufficient or is that a goal we should be collectively working towards? However in the mean time in between time what is the Black community supposed to do?

So all due respect why give a response based on a lack of science and mathematical understanding of history? FDR was known for the New Deal but he had to be forced into it kicking and screaming. That is the job description true and exact of what citizenry are required to do in a democratic republic, and what a public servant is required to provide as their job description.

This conundrum we find ourselves in is unique Alarm Clock. On the one hand, the squeaky wheel normally gets oiled, but in our case, as black people, rather than making the noise to draw the attention of the "electoral politicians," which includes the President, Mr. Barack Obama; we watch and wait, hoping our needs will be met, especially from our first elected black president. While on the other hand, we aren't organized to the extent that our scattered voices can be heard by the electoral politicians, even when we do make noise and squeak.

So, our first black president will go down as a historical figure and not a transformational figure, largely because we continue to fight one another in disunity and can't seem to organize ourselves effectively, as the other groups.

Peace In,

...

Controversy surrounds Phila. pastor's canceled speech

The Rev. Kevin Johnson, senior pastor of Bright Hope Baptist Church in North Philadelphia, was disinvited from speaking at Morehouse College because he wrote a newspaper column critical of President Obama's administration, according to a group of alumni.
The college denied that Friday. Efforts to reach Johnson were unsuccessful.
The controversy erupted Friday afternoon when a group called Citizens for Change issued a news release that gave the following account:
Johnson, a Morehouse alumnus, had been chosen as this year's baccalaureate speaker, to address the college community a day before Obama's graduation visit and commencement speech May 19.
On April 15, it said, Morehouse president John Silvanus Wilson Jr. phoned Johnson to rescind the invitation, saying he was concerned about Johnson's recent column in the Philadelphia Tribune that said there was a scarcity of African American appointees in Obama's cabinet and a lack of policies to reduce poverty.
